Kalibonhon as Ambassador for the 2026 ASEAN meeting

Kuala Lumpur– A Kalibonhon resident is expanding her influence on the ASEAN scale as she was appointed as one of the ambassadors representing the Philippines. Maria Damian, who hails from Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, said that her appointment as one of the ambassadors came after she participated in the 10th ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs Carnival. The said event was recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Global Transformation.” The carnival aims to celebrate a decade of connecting and empowering young entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration, and creating impact among the ASEAN nations. Damian said the Philippines will host next year's ASEAN meeting. The Philippines chairmanship was announced during the Gala Ceremony held last October 16.
Damian was a member of the Philippine Young Entrepreneurs Association. Among her colleagues is the Fil-Am star Christian Bables. "The Philippines is host to the 11th ASEAN Young Entrepreneur Carnival next year. The chairmanship has now been transferred to the Philippines.  An inspiring moment at the ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs Carnival 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as they passed the ASEAN flag to the Philippines, the next chair for 2026. This symbolizes not only leadership but the continued strengthening of relationships among ASEAN nations. Through unity, collaboration, and shared vision, we build bridges that empower entrepreneurs and communities across Southeast Asia," Damian said.   Damian also thanked the personalities behind the Philippine Young Entrepreneurs Association. They were Sergio Antonio Ortiz Luis, Charmaine Co, Loj Toñacao and Arlette Alvarado.

Two Aklanon teen stars in a nationwide theater showing

  Boracay Island—At least two Akeanon teens will star in an anticipated romantic movie set to be shown nationwide on July 9. The teens were Adrianna Nicolette Cooper of Malay, Aklan, and Early Grace Abarro of Altavas, Aklan. The movie also featured some microfinance workers based in Boracay Island. Shot in 2024, the film 'I Remember You' follows Isagani (JC Santos), a successful bank manager sent to Boracay to help a struggling community, despite painful memories from his past with his ex-girlfriend, Debbie (Valeen Montenegro). Many of the scenes were shot on Boracay Island. Their journey of reconnection leads them both to second chances in life, love, and community. The full-length film is produced by Bente Production. Malay town now has an Ultimate Frisbee field training ground

  Malay, Aklan- Malay former councilor Daligdig 'Datu' Yap Sumndad bared that the town now has its own Ultimate Frisbee Training Ground, a feat considered first in Aklan, if not in the whole of Panay Island. This is also considered a dream come true for the three-term councilor, who has been a sports advocate for several years and has received gold medals globally in Frisbee tournaments. "F inally, an Ultimate Frisbee field training ground at The Malay (College) Oval.. This grass field will definitely open up so many opportunities and help discover the talents of our athletes coming from the mainland," Sumndad said in his Facebook post.
